 To What You Seek

Here I stand in the same place, as I have for thousands of years
Forever, maybe since the dawn of time, I stare across a desert of infinite sand
Just like the day before, each day it is the same, each day over this same desert I peer
People travel from a far to see me, because for thousands of years, I have remained so regal and so grand.

But I am not alone, being in a list of wonders, those that cause humankind, to at me shake their head in awe
In this list are the pyramids, not those just of Egypt, but all around the world
People still trying to figure out the secrets of the ancients, but people want to know how they lived and what they saw
But can mankind of today understand the secrets of those long gone, as before their eyes the secrets slowly unfurl?

Just like me, the sphinx, totally intriguing man, whether they be from ancient Babylon or from modern day America
Men of today, trying to figure out why we are, who we are, and what do we have to tell them?
Scientific investigations, using everything within their power, to try and figure us out
And after they discover something, still they are not sure, if it is the truth in front of them!

Me, I have remained silent forever and a day
Never letting mankind know, maybe it's I that contain the secrets, they unendingly seek
Never tiring, always inquisitive, endlessly searching, for the answer that pleases them without delay
Who really knows the answers to all the questions they seek?

Our secrets have always been within your reach
The ancients made sure all the answers were always here, so they would at the right time they be found
All our information, everything left, the ancients, the things they left, hoping when found mankind they would teach
Hoping, by what they learned, mankind of today would be solid and sound.

But as I stand regal today, just like yesterday, everything left, only the surface has been scratched
All civilizations, don't you see yet? We are all the alike, one and the same
We are all connected, in all different ancient societies, haven't you yet figured things that to another civilization matched?
We all societies of the ancients, we all brethren, never hanging our heads in shame.
